CV
Hamish Robertson is a British-born photographer and artist based in Los Angeles. Working across portraiture, still life, and assemblage, his practice is informed by a formal background in design and fiber art—a foundation reflected in his focus on texture, spaces, atmosphere, and the quiet details of a subject.
His approach is built on sustained observation and questions of perception, visual narratives and an interplay of original and found imagery. Whether through personal projects, commissions, or moving images, his work serves as a meditation on place and form, considering how an image evolves as it moves from the lens or page into new physical contexts and environments. By embracing the space between realism and abstraction, he reframes the presented visual landscape to highlight residual marks and peripheral spaces.
A graduate of Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland, Robertson spent a decade in New York City as an editor for Vanity Fair and GQ. His work has been acquired by museums and private collectors, with installations in hospitality projects across three continents. He work has been shown at the Whitney Museum of American Art and Artists Space in New York, and at Art Basel Miami.
With a focus on printmaking and multiples, Robertson has published the arts journal Afterzine and various artist’s books under his collaborative imprints, Brown Griffin and Vision in Motion. His first photography book, Vacancy, received Japan’s Mount Zine Best Photography Book award. Today, his work is offered directly to collectors through editions, publications, and site-specific projects.
